Why Pursuing a PhD While Running a Company Isn’t Crazy It’s Necessary

I recently had a conversation that made me smile.

Someone looked at me and said, “You’re pursuing a PhD while running a company? That’s crazy.”

And honestly, I understand why it sounds that way.

We live in a world where the most common advice is “Focus on one thing.”
And to be fair, in many situations, that advice works.

But here’s where I see it differently.

Continuous Learning Is Not a Distraction  It Is the Work

There’s a dangerous assumption that learning and building are separate activities.

They are not.

Especially in today’s world  and even more in tech  learning is building.

Artificial Intelligence is redefining industries at an unprecedented pace.
Cybersecurity threats are evolving daily.
What worked two years ago is already becoming outdated.

So the real question is:

How can you build for the future if you’ve stopped learning in the present?

The Risk of Standing Still

If I stop learning today, then everything I teach tomorrow becomes outdated.

And that’s a responsibility I take seriously.

Because teaching yesterday’s knowledge in today’s world is not just ineffective — it’s dangerous.

It leaves people unprepared for the realities they will face.

And I refuse to be part of that.

My PhD Is Not a Title  It’s a Commitment

Let me be clear:

This PhD is not about prestige.
It’s not about adding another title.

It’s about staying ahead.

It’s about ensuring that the knowledge I share, the systems I build, and the people I mentor are equipped for what’s coming  not what has already passed.

Leading by Example

At Webbiit and within this community, I believe leadership is not about instruction — it’s about demonstration.

If I ask you to learn, grow, and push your limits, then I must be doing the same.

Always.

Because the truth is simple:

You cannot inspire growth if you’ve stopped growing.

A Standard, Not a Phase

Learning is not something you complete.

It’s not a phase of life.

It’s a standard.

A standard you choose.
A standard you maintain.
A standard you keep raising.

My Challenge to You

Set your standard high.

Then don’t settle there.

Raise it again.

And again.

Because in a world that is constantly evolving, the people who win are not the ones who know the most today…

They are the ones who refuse to stop learning tomorrow.
