Adebayo Ajayi – Empowering a Generation Through Technology
Sharing knowledge to create opportunities. During his university days, he started a blog where he provided free information about job opportunities worldwide. What began as a small initiative to help people access reliable information quickly turned into a mission to empower individuals through practical skills and mentorship.
One moment that stands out from his early days was when someone offered him ₦200,000 to guarantee a job in the Navy. Ajayi declined, explaining that he could not promise employment, but he could guide the individual by structuring a CV and providing accurate information. “That experience reinforced my commitment to integrity and service,” he recalls.
Driven by a desire to understand technology at a deeper level, Ajayi pursued studies in computer engineering and computer repairs in Lagos, followed by computer networking, website design, and programming. He later traveled to India to gain advanced certifications in CCNA, MCSE, ethical hacking, and digital marketing, expanding both his technical expertise and global perspective. Today, he is furthering his education with a PhD at the University of Ibadan, complementing his master’s in AI from the University of Wolverhampton, a master’s in information technology from the National Open University of Nigeria, and a BSc in computer science from Adekunle Ajasin University.
Ajayi’s professional journey has been marked by several defining moments. Early on, he freelanced on Fiverr, writing articles and offering web design services, earning his first $100,000 and nearly reaching the highest professional level on the platform. While this was a milestone, it led him to realize that his true mission was bigger than freelancing alone—he wanted to empower others at scale, which inspired the founding of Webbiit Technologies.
Over the years, Ajayi has trained and mentored hundreds of individuals across Nigeria and globally. His work spans universities, churches, MSMEs, and communities. Every year, he organizes programs at institutions such as University of Benin, Delta State University, and Osadebay University in Asaba. In 2022, he partnered with GIZ and the Edo State Government, training over 400 MSMEs on leveraging technology to grow their businesses. He has also been featured in programs teaching people how to make their first $10,000 online, demonstrating his focus on practical, income-generating skills.
Despite the successes, Ajayi emphasizes that the journey has not been without challenges. One of the hardest has been gaining the visibility and recognition his work deserves, even after investing in radio programs, online ads, and community outreach. There were times when friends and partners distanced themselves during slow periods, and training programs would attract only one participant. Yet, through all of this, he remained focused on the long-term vision, believing that persistence and purpose are more powerful than immediate results.
Ajayi defines success not by personal achievements but by the impact he creates in the lives of others. Seeing trainees move from curiosity about technology to mastering skills, generating income, and mentoring others themselves is what he considers the true measure of accomplishment. This philosophy is guided by values of integrity, service, continuous learning, and empowerment, which underpin both his work and leadership.
Looking ahead, Ajayi’s goals are ambitious. Webbiit Technologies is building a state-of-the-art headquarters in GRA, Benin City, designed as a first-class training and innovation hub. Its digital platform, Webbiit Media (webbiitmedia.com), offers online courses similar to Udemy, expanding access to practical technology training globally. He is also conceptualizing technology-driven solutions in critical sectors like healthcare and security, aiming to address real-world problems through innovation.
Ajayi draws inspiration from leaders such as Tony Elumelu, whose model of combining business success with social impact resonates deeply with his own mission. His advice to aspiring professionals is equally clear: stay focused, even when results or money isn’t immediate; keep learning; and use your skills to empower others. He believes that challenges are part of growth, and persistence, coupled with purpose, is the key to long-term success.
Through decades of learning, teaching, and building, Adebayo Ajayi has turned a simple university blog into a platform for global technology empowerment, impacting individuals, communities, and industries. His story is a testament to the power of focus, integrity, and the transformative potential of technology when combined with mentorship and vision.
